Questions for your Leasing Agent

Getting a good deal is as much about working with someone you trust as it is about doing research. All the research in the world cannot save you from someone who doesn’t have your best interest in mind. Many salespeople in the world of copier leases just want to squeeze extra dollars out of your pocket. One of the best things you can do is to arm yourself with questions for your leasing agent to see how you feel about them.

Remember that you will likely be working with this person for years. You really want to do your best to decide early if you think they are someone that you can work with. Do they have your best interests in mind? Are they willing to answer your questions with straight answers?

Here are some questions you can ask to see if they are going to truly help you or not.

  • What is the true monthly cost? Don’t be fooled into thinking your lease payment is all you are paying. Ask for them to give you a detailed breakdown. Understanding exactly what you’re paying for is crucial to getting your money’s worth.
  • How many prints do you think I’ll need? This is a good way to see if they are going to try and squeeze some extra dollars out. Have a number you think is right and stick to it. Don’t let them start to oversell you on prints.
  • What do I do at the end of the lease? Understanding this is actually very important. Many people don’t know that leasing agents can slide sneaky provisions in your lease. Double check this with your leasing agent.
